Online job-related searches down 5 million
The number of job-related searches conducted online by UK consumers dropped by over 5 million between October and December 2009 reveals a new report by Greenlight, the UK’s leading independent search marketing agency. 8.4 million job-related searches were made online in December, a considerable decrease on 13.8 million in October. The report, ‘Recruitment Sector Report – Issue 1’, the first of a quarterly series, classified 3,300 of the most popular keywords used by UK consumers to look for jobs online. It included generic, job and location specific terms, to determine the 60 most visible websites and brands for related searches in natural search and the most prominent in paid search.

The research ‘Gaming Sector Report – Issue 4’, reveals that UK online search volumes for casino-related terms in December had increased by 24% since September.

From Waterproof trousers and Hoodies to Women’s dresses and Men’s coats, UK consumers made a total of 7.1 million searches online for the latest men and women’s clothing styles and fashion collections, in November 2009, more than doubling on September’s total.

Microsoft's plans to buy Yahoo's internet search and search advertising businesses have been cleared by both European and US regulators. This will mean Bing powers the natural search results for Yahoo!, while Yahoo! handles advertising for Bing.

Greenlight report reveals best perfoming Hotels and Agents, online
Going by the keywords used when UK consumers went online to conduct a search for a hotel over the festive season, London was by far the most sought after individual location. This is according to the latest independent report from Greenlight, the UK’s leading search marketing agency, ‘Hotels Sector Report – Issue 4’. The report which analysed 1,300 hotel-related keywords for this purpose, reveals a total of 7.5 million online searches were conducted by UK consumers in the UK in December. ‘London Hotels’ accounted for 9% compared to just 1% for Las Vegas, Edinburgh, Dubai and Paris.

Serious romantics or bargain-hunting cupids? - UK consumers search for Valentine all year
In the lead up to Valentine’s day, thousands of cupid-playing and romantic loving folk scour the high street and search online for that special something to convey amorous affection to their loved one or impress and woo their ‘objects of desire’. However, if online search revelations from independent search marketing agency Greenlight are anything to go by, it would seem funny that Valentine lingers well beyond the confines of February. So are today’s Brits serial romantics or shrewd shoppers, out to bag Valentine bargains? Might April and June truly be the least romantic months of the calendar? Is Santa beginning to cash in on Valentine’s booty?

Ryanair loses visibility to EasyJet Online
Ryanair has lost almost 60% of its visibility online since September 2009, reveals independent research by Greenlight, the UK’s leading award winning search marketing agency. The report, ‘Flights Sector Report – Issue 4’, analysed key search terms used when UK consumers go online to find a flight. It determined the best positioned and hence most visible websites in this sector based on the volumes for each keyword. Ryanair held fourth position in the visibility stakes in Q3 2009. However Q4 saw a dramatic shift. EasyJet landed in at fourth position as Ryanair was relegated to 32. It was not the only casualty. CheapFlights also saw a 25% decrease in search visibility dropping from position two to eight.

TVs top iPods in online search
Televisions were the most popular entertainment product searched for online in November 2009, reveals research just published by Greenlight, the UK’s leading independent search marketing agency. According to the report, ‘Brown Goods Sector Report – Issue 4’, the number of UK consumer searches for brown goods overall exceeded 20 million in November 2009, a jump of almost 5 million on October’s 15.2 million and an increase of 7 million when compared to September’s total.

4% of websites have page load speeds detrimental to their search marketing efforts
According to leading UK-based independent search marketing agency Greenlight, website page load speeds will become an increasingly important factor in 2010 for search advertisers, and demonstrates that page load speed performance cannot be assumed, even for some of the biggest sites in the UK. In a sample study of 100 of the UK’s most popular websites, Greenlight determined that 4% of them had page load speeds slower than the acceptable threshold set by Google, beyond which the advertiser may see increased click costs.

Online car-hire search drops consecutively from June through to September
The number of car-hire related searches made by UK-based consumers online, dropped between June-September, reveals a new report by Greenlight, the UK’s leading independent search marketing agency. According to the report ‘Car Hire Sector Report – Q3 2009’, of the 5.8 million searches for car-hire related terms over the period, 1.5 million occurred in September.

Google’s “First Click Free” policy weakens Microsoft’s hand in its struggle to improve Bing
Google has announced a change to it’s so called “First Click Free” policy. It used to say that newspapers and other subscription sites are allowed to erect pay walls around their content while still letting Google in to index (and subsequently rank) that content in its search results, providing that the first page of content on a newspaper website is always free to view for users coming from Google.
